Weird Science

by Billy | February 25, 2010 | 4:56 pm

“The only 1980s-themed band that makes every party awesome…TO THE MAX.”

Weird ScienceWeird Science is a Staten Island-based band that plays the best of Prince, Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, Duran Duran, Madonna, George Michael, Men at Work, Toto, INXS, and lots more.

The band traces its roots back to the fall of 2008, when they performed as the house band for the Cargo Cafe 1984 Prom party. They played the Cargo Prom again in 2009, tastefully billed as the Bathroom Stall Babies, and soon after began playing more regular gigs at local bars.

The lineup changed from gig to gig, members of the Bandulos and Man Down floated in and out, but the constants have been John Lynch and Billy Levay. The current lineup also includes Adam Hecht (guitar), Kevin Jensen (drums), Tina Kenny (keys, vox), and Anne Marie Nacchio (vox). Tina and Anne Marie also perform with the Bandulos’ own Nicole Pignatelli as the Bad Mouth Betties.

You can catch Weird Science at Rhythm & Brews on Friday, March 5.

On Sept. 13, 2009 we played the Richmond County Fair at Historic Richmond Town. We took the stage after local legends The Elegants and before our sister band The Bad Mouth Betties.

Here’s a video courtesy of Steve Corn, the man behind Rock Cast of Staten Island.

Holiday party timelapse

In December we played an office holiday party in the West Village, and there was a camera programmed to snap a photo every few minutes to document the proceedings. We start to set up around the 22-second mark. Cue “Yakety Sax.”

This Friday, Feb. 19 at Rhythm & Brews

Sorry for the short notice, but we’re filling in last-minute for another band that had to cancel. Your favorite classic funk, soul, rock, disco and reggae, plus cheap drinks, beer pong, and faux-brick walls! It’s going to be fun. Plus, our talented friend John Lynch will be sitting in on guitar alongside our own Joe Crispiano, so we’ll be stretching out a bit and having some fun with the tunes. Hope you can make it!

Valentine’s Day, Sunday, Feb. 14 at Big Nose Kate’s

by Billy | February 7, 2010 | 11:10 pm

Baby, Don’t Leave Me This Way, and Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, but I think it’s time we Get Down Tonight. Let’s Get It On. I’m serious.

For Once In My Life, I want you to Stand By Me. Through Good Times Bad Times.

It might be Late in the Evening, but you’re Just What I Needed. Touch Me. Take a Piece of My Heart. I’ll give you All My Loving, because You Really Got a Hold On Me. I Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.

If you say no, I Will Survive. I’ll Pick Up The Pieces, because These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ and I’ve got a Soulful Strut.

But if you say yes, we can go to my Love Shack and Stir It Up. Just Express Yourself. Shake Your Booty and Twist and Shout. Hop on my Love Rollercoaster.

Brown-Eyed Girl, I Want You Back. I Miss You — All Day and All of the Night.

Love,
The Bandulos

Milton Henry & The Bandulos @ Van Duzer Summer Streets

by Billy | February 2, 2010 | 6:22 pm

On Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, we took the stage in the middle of Van Duzer Street and played a fun set to an appreciative crowd. Our good friend Milton Henry graced us with his presence and we launched into his classic tune “Good Old Days.” The folks at SiCoLab were kind enough to put together this clip:

Indeed!

Graffiti New York book release party

by Billy | February 1, 2010 | 1:03 pm

Back in Nov. 2009 we played a stripped-down, low-key set for a book release party held at NYC Arts Cypher and hosted by our friend ON 2 of Fresh Style Rockers. The book is titled Graffiti New York, and it’s available at Amazon.com, among other places.

Legendary graffiti photographers Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant were there, and Martha took a few shots of the band. We hope we can get our hands on them sometime soon. Here’s Martha’s blog post about the event.

The guys who put this book together are also behind the site @149st, and they thanked us in a blog post.
